FR-4 (or FR4) is a NEMA grade designation for glass-reinforced epoxy laminate material. FR-4 is a composite material composed of woven fiberglass cloth with an epoxy resin binder that is flame resistant.

It does not specify specific material, but instead a grade of material, as defined by NEMA LI 1-1998 specification.There are many types of FR-4 grade materials, but most of them are made of epoxy resin plus filler and glass fiber material, which is what we use in production.

Aluminum PCB is one of common use among metal core materials. It can be known as aluminum clad, aluminum base, metal clad printed circuit board (MCPCB), insulated metal substrate(IMS or IMPCB) orthermally conductive PCBs. The aluminum pcb substrate is a metal-based copper clad laminate with good heat dissipation function.

Generally, the single-sided board is composed of a three-layer structure, which is a circuit layer (copper foil), an insulating layer, and a metal base layer. For high-end use, some are designed as double-sided pcb, and the structure is a circuit layer, an insulating layer, an aluminum base, an insulating layer, and a circuit layer.
